From Care Assistant to Registered Manager

Today marks the start of National Careers Week – a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The campaign aims to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people develop awareness and excitement about their future pathways.

A Rewarding Career In Care

From Care Assistant to Registered Manager, the opportunities are endless in Adult Social Care.

You don’t need qualifications to start a career in care but you can gain them while you work. Whether you are new to care or looking to progress, there’s a path for you.

Helen’s journey shows how far a career in care can take you.

“My career path to becoming a Registered Manager is quite a story. It definitely wasn’t a straight line. I started out in hairdressing after leaving school, qualifying to Level 3. Then, I became a stay-at-home mum and had six children. My son passed away from meningitis, and seeing the care he received in the hospital really impacted me. It made me realise I wanted to give something back and help people who were struggling. I wanted to feel like I was making a difference.”

Helen recently completed her Level 5 qualification and shared: “I am very pleased to have passed my NVQ5. It has given me the knowledge to do my job better and with more confidence. I’ll use what I’ve learned every day. Gaining this qualification is brilliant and a massive achievement for me.”

She added: “Thank you to Hales. They have been a fantastic support network especially my Regional Director who kept me going, giving me the support I needed when things got tough. It took a lot of work and dedication to complete this NVQ5 and the outcome was well worth it.”
